Blood Red Road

This book is GOOD!!! If you can get past the dialect that is used, you will really enjoy it. It is chock full of adventure! I didn't expect a lot of what happened in the story & I didn't expect to cry near the end.

The story... Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when a monster sandstorm arrives, along with four cloaked horsemen, Saba's world is shattered. Lugh is captured, and Saba embarks on an epic quest to get him back.
Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the world outside of desolate Silverlake, Saba is lost without Lugh to guide her. So perhaps the most surprising thing of all is what Saba learns about herself: she's a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.

It is no surprise to me that Ridley Scott got the films rights for this book before it was even published. This book is meant to be seen. It is hugely entertaining! This is a trilogy & I can't wait to read the next one. I have some questions that need answered!

  1. Ahhhh!!! I have read reviews on this book and it's on my "must read" list! I may need to bump it up a few notches after reading your review! I love getting good book recommendations! :) Okay... and I see that you are reading "The Book Thief" now... I feel awful... I never got the book to you. Like you, I have been SWAMPED and just CRAZY busy. Should I assume you have picked up a copy? I am rereading the book again but because of my whacko schedule, it's only happening in spurts... but I do LOVE this book with all my heart and it's getting more markings in it!

  2. Rich is reading it now & is having a hard time with the dialect. I got used to it pretty quickly.

I got the Book Thief from the library. I'm about a 3rd of the way through it. It's pretty dang good.

  3. I'm glad you are enjoying The Book Thief!! I'm about halfway through it (my second time around) and I find myself marking it up a lot! I'm SOOOOOO glad I decided to reread it... I am finding that I have forgotten most of the details and I'm picking up themes and nuances that I either missed the first time or that I just see differently this time. I'm starting to think I should read all books at least twice. Heck, I've read the Twilight books a zillion times and I always find new things. Makes me realize that I really got almost NOTHING deep out of them the first time. I'm also reading Harry Potter to Ethan right now and THOROUGHLY enjoying picking up new things. I forgot SO MANY of the details. We should be finishing up Prisoner of Azkaban tonight and starting Goblet of Fire!! I'm so excited... that's the book that really marks a dramatic "pick up" in the story (at least for me). :)
